1st X1 124-6 v Appleby Frodingham 120 all out

With a string of poor performances leading up to the game against Appleby Frodingham, it was essential that United got back on winning ways with a convincing win over the seelmen.

United won the toss and put Frodingham in to bat first on a wicket that was quite damp and looked as though it would favour the bowlers. Barlow’s decision was quickly ratified as the ball had plenty of movement both through the air and off the pitch.

Scoring proved difficult and in addition to losing regular wickets Appleby Frodingham only managed to set United a modest 120 off 53 overs. United’s ‘work horse’ Tom Fletcher having a field day with yet another miserly spell of bowling bringing him 7 wickets, off 26 overs. N. Yousuf providing the only real resistance with a positive 41.

United made hard work of the reply having got off to a good start with openers Barlow (16) and J Osmond (31) putting on around 40 for the first wicket. However, after losing both in a couple of overs the momentum went with Frodingham who managed to really put pressure on the new batters through tight bowling from Yousuf and Vermeulen. Trower (37*) steadied the ship with support from Andrew Plummer and Matt King to secure the 8 points with the loss of 6 wickets.
