1st X1 186-9 v Doncaster 187-4 After a real team effort on Saturday to over turn Cleethorpes at Chichester Road, the comfortable lose on the Monday was difficult to accept for everyone. It will be a test of everyone’s character to see how we bounce back for the key game against Collegiate. Against the run of form, Barlow won the toss and elected to have first use of a pitch that was extremely helpful to the spinners. After the loss of James Osmond when the score was 10, Martin Barlow (73) and John Trower (37) brought some stability to the United innings. But tight bowling from Sajid Shah (1-46), Duncan Jones (1-47) and Hassan Butt (3-13) made it difficult to accelerate during the middle of the innings. A quick fire 16 in 21 balls late in the innings took United up to a defendable 186-9. United made a good start with the ball taking wickets of Attenborough (10) and Rennison (5). However Andrew Parkin-Coates (57) and Hassan Butt (46) played with maturity and waited for the lose ball. Supported by 27 from Simon Widdup and 25 from Pete Ellis Doncaster always looked comfortable and strolled to a 6 wicket victory. The pick of United’s bowling was Andrew Plummer with 2-25 and Alex Osmond with 2-33.
